Emergency Dentistry Q & A
What is emergency dentistry?
Emergency dentistry addresses dental care situations that require immediate attention. Good emergency dentists have to be more than just skilled and knowledgeable; they also have to be calm, confident, and able to perform under high pressure. Dr. Fahid and Dr. Fahid are both masters of emergency care and can treat your smile with what it needs to restore its appearance and function.
What are some examples of dental emergencies?
A dental emergency is any condition that requires immediate attention, involving your mouth or oral tissues, like:
- A severe toothache or pain in your mouth
- Knocked-out tooth
- A cut or tear on your lips, mouth, or inner cheeks
- Severe physical damage, like a crack or break, to your tooth
- Lost restoration, like a filling or crown
If you’re unclear as to whether or not you’re suffering from a dental emergency, call the Beverly Hills Innovative Endodontics office immediately. It’s better to be safe than sorry, and its team of dental experts can work with you over the phone to determine if you need to come in for emergency treatment.
How should I handle a dental emergency?
If you’ve experienced a dental emergency, visit Beverly Hills Innovative Endodontics as soon as you can. Getting treatment within 30 minutes of your emergency could mean the difference between saving or losing your tooth.
If you’ve knocked out your tooth, try to locate it. Then rinse it off with warm water and reinsert it into your empty socket. Never touch your tooth by its roots –– only touch it by its crown. If you manage to place it back in your socket, bite down gently on it until you reach the office. If you can’t reinsert your tooth back in its socket, you can prevent its roots from drying out by keeping it in the side of your mouth or in a glass of milk or saliva.
If you’ve chipped or broken your tooth, rinse your mouth with warm water, apply topical pain reliever, and bite down on some gauze for 10 minutes at a time. If you’re unable to get to the office immediately, you can use dental cement from your local pharmacy to cover the crack or break.
